Michael Jackson Pepsi Ad deconstructed

I remember as a kid I would see ads on TV that made me believe I could meet someone if I did something that they did. For example I would see ads about celebrities I liked showing up where a kid would be because of something they were doing whether it be drinking a Pepsi or eating a certain type of food. Well this ad makes me feel that way. Micheal Jackson used to be very popular due to his dancing and his type of singing so watching this and seeing a kid meet him because of drinking Pepsi, it would persuade other kids to drink Pepsi as well thinking they could meet someone they idolize.

I chose this Ad to deconstruct due to the fact of me growing up and liking Michael as a child. I think about the persuasions I fell for when I was a child and I think to myself that if I saw this ad when I was younger I would probably drink Pepsi just so I could feel cool or feel as if I fit in with him. I wanted to realize for myself what really makes people want to do things like drink Pepsi just because of an ad.

Bribery- If you drink Pepsi you could be just like Micheal Jackson like dance like him or even meet him.

Association- Kids are dancing like Micheal Jackson and drinking Pepsi and having fun when they meet him so other kids are going to want to drink Pepsi as well with their friends because they will think that if they can have fun then so can they.

Celebrities- Michael Jackson shows up in the ad singing and drinking a Pepsi as well so people who like Michael will want to drink Pepsi as well because they will think it is the cool thing to do.
